Explorer Post 1948

Exploring is a career introduction program sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America. It is designed for young adults 14 to 21 years of age. The BSA Explorer Program provides the opportunity for explorers to build desirable character attributes, experience the responsibilities of active citizenship, develop mental sharpness, and increase physical fitness.

Fire Exploring gives young people valuable insight into the fire service profession by offering hands-on career activities. This insight will help the individual to decide whether or not he or she desires to pursue a greater role in the fire service. Fire District personnel led by Firefighter/Paramedic Ken Schneider launched Fire Explorer Post 1948 in August 2006.

For information on participating with the Fire Explorers please contact the Department. You can leave a message at Station 1 at (303)816-9385.

Fire Explorer Post 1948’s program gives the explorers the opportunity to learn the basic skills necessary for fire fighting and learn about the demands of the career. Some of the things fire explorers learn are:

  1. District rules, regulations, and privacy laws.

  2. Fire behavior and chemistry.

  3. Proper radio communication protocols.

  4. The proper use and wearing of structural firefighting gear.

  5. How to wear and use Self Contained Breathing Apparatus.

  6. How to use ropes and tie knots.

  7. The proper and safe use of fire department ladders.

  8. 1st Responder medical training, as well as Hazardous Materials Awareness.

A ride-along with the on-duty crew to experience first hand how the job is done, however each explorer will have many hours of training before they can qualify for a ride-along with the crews.
